Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Gayle + Thomas

Gayle and Thomas were married on a gorgeous afternoon in September with amazing natural light pouring in on them from our windows. Everything came together perfectly for their wedding day and we can’t wait to share everything with you!

The Backstory + Proposal

The couple met through mutual friends who encouraged them that they would “be great together.” Almost a year and a half after their initial meeting, Gayle says the sparks really flew at a Christmas party and they went on their first real date. The next weekend the couple went to another Christmas party, and then every weekend there after they traveled to see each other.

The proposal came in late January, after Thomas had asked Gayle’s father’s permission at Christmas. We are told it included “a whole set up with sticky notes and music, and a sparkly ring at the end!”

The Venue + Décor

What drew you to The Colonnade?

“We fell in love with the Colonnade on our first visit! We loved how the venue could be set up in so many different ways and that we had so many options for the ceremony, the reception, cocktail hour, etc. I also really liked how the overall package options were flexible and inclusive, it took some of the sourcing out of the planning and made decisions easier.”

It was safe to say that Revolution Mill was a “love at first sight” story with both Gayle and Thomas. We’re so thankful it was! We loved hosting them and their special guests to celebrate their love for each other.

“The beautiful Revolution Mill has inspired our decor definitely! When we visited the venue, I immediately liked it and was excited about the options for having our wedding there. I wasn’t sure about Thomas’ initial reaction because he wasn’t saying much. As we were leaving, he stopped me and told me that this was our venue, that is was the perfect setting and was a representation of who we are as people and a couple; the old cotton mill/wood floors represents where he comes from a rural setting, son of a tobacco farmer in King, and the ironwork and modern details represents more of where I come from in urban settings and it mixes together beautifully. Our decor is a representation of that as well, modern rustic. But what I also love about the venue is that is has so many gorgeous details to be accented, I don’t have to “over” decorate it!”

Food & Drinks

The couple kept all of their guests in mind while creating their menu and added personal meals for the gluten free and vegetarian friends as well. The full menu included a cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres of:

  • Caprese Skewers Skewers of Alternating Grape Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella Balls and fresh basil drizzled with balsamic glaze

  • Mini Sundried Tomato Biscuits with homemade pimento cheese

  • Bacon-Wrapped Sweet Potatoes with a black pepper brown sugar glaze

The dinner buffet included:

  • Mixed Greens Salad Tossed with Balsamic Artichoke Hearts, Smoked Gouda, Tomatoes and Croutons

  • Grilled Chicken Breast Parmesan Cream Sauce

  • Marinated Grilled Flank Steak with Pommery Mustard Sauce

  • Fresh Green Beans with Shoepeg Corn

  • Steamed Lemon Parsley Potatoes

Everyone enjoyed a decadent dessert table filled with cookies made by a family friend and goodies after dinner.
