Rain on Your Wedding Day? Don’t Panic!
At The Colonnade at Revolution Mill, we offer a gorgeous courtyard space for outdoor ceremonies and photos. While we wish we could order blue skies for every couple, Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate! However, there is no need to panic as long as you have a backup plan in place. We have some indoor ceremony options that are equally amazing and will help put your mind at ease when planning your wedding day.
Rain on your wedding day is definitely not something most couples want to happen… but let’s face it, it is a possibility that you should plan for. That’s where our amazing event staff here at Rev Mill can help!
Tip: Consider it as a possibility and make an action plan for rain…
Typically when you don’t plan for something, it will happen. And vice versa. So let’s go ahead and make that Plan B in case of inclement weather. You’ll feel much better knowing that you have a back up plan in place in the event you need it.
We have lovely options for indoor ceremonies! As part of planning with couples, we discuss an inclement weather plan for all outdoor ceremonies. If inclement weather is approaching, we will be in touch the week of the wedding to finalize a decision. While we will make every reasonable effort to accommodate your wishes, we have learned it is best to decide as early as possible to alleviate the uncertainty and added stress. Please keep in mind DJs and musicians cannot use their equipment in any rain. We will provide one complimentary reset to accommodate moving inside due to bad weather. Each event will be considered on an individual basis and management reserves the right to make a final decision on ceremony location based upon weather conditions and safety.
Tip: Plan your decor to work indoor or outdoor…
Choose decorations that will work well in primary and secondary ceremony locations and are easily moved (i.e., an arbor that can be set up outside or inside). Consider bringing some “rain props” just in case, such as a clear umbrella with rain galoshes for that photo op.
Tip: Have event insurance…
It’s worthwhile to consider event insurance, especially during Hurricane Season in North Carolina. There are companies that specialize in event insurance or you can try checking with your home or car insurance agency. Sometimes you’re able to add event insurance to your policy. In the event of serious weather, you can have peace of mind should anything happen.
Tip: Relax and enjoy your wedding day!
No amount of worrying or stressing is going to change a single thing. In fact, it will only make it worse on yourself. Just relax and take comfort in the fact that you have a back up plan in place and no matter what, you and your guests will be well taken care of. The most important thing is saying “I do!”
Words of wisdom from a recent Bride…
“I chose Revolution Mill Events primarily for a great outdoor option as well as the beautiful indoor option. Brides can choose a venue but they can't choose the weather so it's best to plan for a hurricane and hope for a beautiful day. I'll be honest, I cried a bunch when I heard Hurricane Florence was heading right towards NC but talking with the wedding venue coordinator (Jaime) as well as the wedding day of coordinator (Relish Design Company) was my way of dealing with the stress. I needed to know my back up options if the power went out or if flooding was a potential what were my options, as well as my options for having to change the wedding date if the weather was going to be too dangerous. If you are getting married during Hurricane season it's good to know if the venue has back up generators if the power were to go out. That was one of my worries. I put my complete trust into the venue coordinator because they know the venue the best. For anyone looking at a venue, always go with the one with both indoor/outdoor option. Looking back, I do hate that the hurricane prevented out of town family members from coming to the wedding. I have zero regrets about choosing Revolution. It was the perfect venue to host a hurricane wedding and believe it or not most of my wedding pictures were taken outside, yay!! My word of advice for inclement weather couples, stay calm, talk to your wedding team about your options, and remember that despite the less than perfect weather at the end of your wedding day you are married and that's what it is all about!” - Allyssa, Bride, Married in September 2018
