Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Alexis + Ben

Alexis and Ben were married on a gorgeous May afternoon at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill in Greensboro. Photographer, Amanda Sutton, did a phenomenal job showcasing our venue and of course, the love between Alexis and Ben… and Bailey (their dog!!).

The Proposal

“While I was home to go to a concert with my Mom, Ben secretly purchased a boat and made the trip home to surprise me with it. He made the excuse that he needed me to go to his parents’ house to grab something for him before I headed back to Beaufort. Before I knew it, both our families were gathered around a boat outside of his parents’ home. While we stood in front of the boat to take a picture, he proposed which turned out to be an even bigger surprise than the boat!”

The Venue

Like many of our Rev Mill couples, Alexis and Ben first noticed The Colonnade’s unique combination of historic and modern qualities.

Greensboro Venue_1649.jpg

WHAT DREW YOU TO THE COLONNADE?

“We were initially drawn to The Colonnade because of its historic and industrial charm. It encompassed every visual element that we were looking for. What made us decide to book our wedding there was a combination of the inclusive packages they offer and the people we would be working with. They made everything so easy and simple and that's very hard to find when planning a wedding.”

Greensboro Venue_1679.jpg

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE ARCHITECTURAL FEATURE OF THE COLONNADE?

“It's impossible to pick just one thing. I think what makes it special is the combination of all the features. The exposed brick, large windows, wooden beams, shiplap and iron railing are all puzzle pieces that together create a beautiful space for any kind of event.”

Pre-Wedding Prep + Planning

Alexis and Ben did an amazing job “DIY’ing” many of their decorations including their signs, table numbers, guest book, doughnut boards, bridal party gifts and even their arbor.

“I've always loved crafts and projects so I saw this as an opportunity to create pieces that would add a personal touch. Everything turned out so amazing and complimented the venue beautifully. We're especially glad that the arbor turned out so well that it got to stay at Revolution Mill to become a piece used by future couples for their ceremonies. … While it's all hard work, it was so rewarding to hear how much our guests admired our handmade pieces.”

The girls spent the morning of the big day being pampered in our spacious Suite. Meanwhile the boys enjoyed getting ready in The Lounge while relaxing with drinks.

WHAT WAS THE MOST UNIQUE ELEMENT OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?

“When planning our wedding, it was very important to us that our day felt unique and personal to us. We achieved that through our ceremony music, DIY decor, and our cups and koozies. For our ceremony, we wanted to avoid the overplayed music you hear at almost every wedding. We chose to play songs by Tyler Childers, Billie Eilish and Bon Iver to add a soft and romantic feel. Our cups and koozies were unique in the sense that we incorporated our sweet pup Bailey's face over the phrase, "I do, too!" on one side. Any one who know us knows that our dog is a big part of our lives and we love that we were able to include him in our special day.”

Greensboro Venue_1686.jpg

The Ceremony

The couple chose to have an indoor ceremony since Spring weather can be a little up in the air. The Edison lights, gold chairs, soft pinks and creams, plus the wine colored bridesmaid’s dresses and the DIY Wedding Arbor came together perfectly to create the romantic, yet industrial and boho atmosphere that Alexis and Ben were aiming for.

Greensboro Venue_1670.jpg

The Reception

The reception, like the rest of their day, was customized to showcase Alexis and Ben’s personalities… complete with doughnut boards, Edison lights, a mix of round and rectangle tables, a photo booth, lots of dancing fun and a full open bar. The place settings were beautifully highlighted by burgundy napkins along with more DIY touches.

The couple created coordinating menu cards which featured the dinner buffet menu of:

  • Tossed Garden Salad

  • Herb Crusted Chicken

  • Pork Loin in Smoked Bacon and Stone Fruit Sauce

  • Signature Smashed Potatoes

  • Oven-Roasted Vegetables

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT WORKING WITH REVOLUTION MILL EVENTS?

“My favorite thing was the people at Revolution Mill. Jaime [Venue & Catering Manager] was there every step of the way and provided so much help and reassurance throughout the planning phase. Randy [Event Manager] and the catering staff went above and beyond at making us feel special throughout the wedding. They were all so warm and genuine. Some of the staff even celebrated with us by showing off some of their dance moves which we loved!”

Boho Styled Greensboro Wedding Shoot at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill

Last month we had the joy of hosting a boho themed Greensboro wedding styled shoot. The boho style began trending in the early 2000s, with influences from the 60s and 70s, and we don’t see this trend going anywhere!

What is a boho wedding?

Bohemian weddings are all about channeling effortless, elegant style. The elegance of this gown—paired with a soft, loose updo and a delicate flower crown—evokes a free-spirited nature.

Once all of the amazing vendors got together and the vision really started taking place, we were here for it! We think it turned out gorgeous and unique!! Our clients really love the fact that our space works so well for multiple styles/themes and is a perfect backdrop for any wedding decor your heart desires.

Thank you to all of the lovely vendors for putting this together:

Venue: Rev Mill Events
Models: Kaitlyn + Ryan, Sydney
Photographers: Traci Whitworth + Nichola Rae
Florals: Everything Pretty Collective
Bridal Gown: Penny and Lou Gowns

Planning Your 2021 Greensboro Wedding During COVID

We have all experienced the effects of COVID-19 this year in different ways. There is no doubt that the impact on engaged couples has been significant! We, here at Revolution Mill Events, have been on the roller coaster alongside our clients as many of them made the tough decision to postpone their wedding to 2021.

This year has certainly kept us on our toes — we've learned a lot! We've been working hard to understand the evolving state and local orders and what it means for Greensboro, NC weddings. We continue to update our event procedures to create a safer environment for our clients, guests and employees.

As we look with optimism towards 2021, we are excited to work with all our couples who postponed as well as those who initially planned their date for 2021! While it's hard to prepare for the unknown, we know there are a few things you can do to help your wedding vision come to life. Please consider the below steps to put into action for planning your 2021 wedding during COVID.

TAKE ACTION

Is it us, or does it seem like getting things complete on the to-do list is a little harder than it used to be? We're hearing from our couples that with everything going on they haven't felt much like planning. We encourage you to take action! Ruth Soukup says, "Action is the antidote to fear. Taking focused action is the only way to get where you want to go!" Start with getting a to-do list prioritized and tackle the most critical tasks one step at a time. With each task checked off your to-do list, you’ll feel better that you’re getting things done. Don’t forget to enlist the help of your fiance, family and wedding party to prevent overwhelm.

FINISH BOOKING YOUR VENDORS

Due to so many postponed weddings plus all the couples already planning for 2021, vendors are now being booked up quicker than ever. We recommend reaching out to desired vendors to check their availability as soon as possible. We're happy to provide our couples with recommendations of high-quality local vendors.

We have always recommended hiring a wedding planner/coordinator as one of the most valuable investments you can make in your big day. Since COVID, we have seen this role become more vital than ever as a resource to listen to your concerns, manage changes, understand restrictions, communicate with vendors, review contracts and create contingency plans.

CREATE A MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE WITH SPECIAL DETAILS

Think about ways to create a meaningful experience on your wedding day - these are the moments you and your guests will remember. We have experienced some wonderful moments amidst some smaller, more intimate weddings this year! One that stands out is an intimate wedding in our courtyard with close family members who then gathered around our fountain to watch the newlywed's sweet first dance.

The special details you assemble are what tells your unique love story! Gorgeous florals, specialty rentals, custom menus, accent lighting, and personalized favors create the ambiance for a memorable event.

NEXT STEPS FOR YOUR WEDDING AT THE COLONNADE

Plan to meet with us approximately 3 months out from your wedding date to start the planning process. Together, we’ll take into account the latest safety recommendations to design your custom layout, menu and service plans. There are so many ways to get creative with food and beverage service! COVID has pushed us to provide more creative ways to serve you and your guests. We have had an opportunity to provide more plated meals, attended buffets/stations, individually plated appetizers, and attended beverage stations this year. We can't wait to help you create the elements of your special day!

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

Help keep things in perspective by taking time to appreciate all the goodness around you. While the adjustments you've had to make may be frustrating right now and evoke all kinds of emotions, remember what matters most -- at the end of the day you get to marry your best friend!

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Ashton + Dyllan

Ashton and Dyllan celebrated their wedding on a gorgeous October day surrounded by their closest family and friends. After months of planning and making changes due to COVID, their wedding day came together perfectly! Despite the curveballs COVID tried to throw at them, Ashton and Dyllan rolled with the punches and never lost sight of what matters most…saying “I Do!”

The Venue + Décor

What drew you to The Colonnade?

Multiple things drew us to The Colonnade. I loved the fact that we could be inside & outside. We loved the industrial feel of the venue & we also loved that catering was included. That took a huge LOAD off our backs when it came to planning what people would eat & drink.
- Ashton, Bride

It was a beautiful fall day for a courtyard ceremony and the intimate dinner reception that followed. The couple incorporated fall colors into their décor. Ashton created all of the table signs and welcome sign out of acrylic plexiglass and paint which helped to pull the classic wedding style together. Their guests loved the custom crossword puzzles provided for entertainment at their tables. One of the most memorable moments for the couple occured when Dyllan’s father played a video of well-wishes from family that lived out of the country since they were unable to travel.

Jaime [Venue & Catering Manager] was my favorite thing about working with Revolution Mill Events. I can't imagine managing multiple crazy couple's weddings every month, let alone during a pandemic. She kept me sane, she answered all my questions, and she really helped make sure we had a wonderful wedding.

Flora Weddings & Events - Our flowers were so special and lovely. The colors were more beautiful than I could have dreamed of.

Triad DJ - PJ and Alan were amazing at reading the room & did a fantastic job during the ceremony as well. Everything went down flawlessly even my little surprise song I sang at the reception.

Maxie B's Cake & Nothing Bundt Cakes - I mean delicious.

Kayli Lafon Photography - OVER THE MOON about how beautiful the photos turned out. From the start, I knew that getting a great photographer was super important to me. Kayli is wonderful! Made us feel super comfortable and really captured how much we love each other.

Up Do's Hair & Makeup - Felt like a beauty queen. 100% recommend getting your hair and makeup done even if you feel confident in your own hair and makeup skills. It was sooo relaxing not having to worry about doing my eye shadow & liner absolutely perfect.

Intimate Wedding Styled Shoot at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill

When Photographer Jaclyn Auletta and Meagan of Pearl & Ivy Events proposed an intimate wedding styled shoot, we were excited to collaborate! We had been in the midst of the COVID-19 shutdown and were just starting to slowly re-open the venue for tours. A styled shoot, featuring the new trend of intimate weddings, was just the bright spot we needed to re-connect with other vendors and be reminded of what we love most about our stunning event space!

Meagan created an inspiration board as a starting point to share with the vendors. After some downtime, everyone was ready to jump in and use their creativity for the shoot! The couple featured could not have been more perfect! Welcome to Nelie & Matt, who… did we mention also have their own YouTube channel?! How fun is that?

Is A Weekday Wedding Right For You?

Copy of New on the Blog IG Post (1).png

Are you struggling to find your perfect wedding date and frustrated because many of the weekend dates are already booked? You’re not alone. First off, take a deep breath. It’s going to be okay, promise! A lot of couples are in the same predicament right now due to COVID-19.

As couples have rescheduled their 2020 weddings, many 2021 weekend dates (particularly Saturday) have been scooped up earlier than normal. And yes, that sounds overwhelming… but chin up! We’re here to tell you why having a weekday wedding can be a great option to consider.

Weddings have long been celebrated on weekdays, but due to COVID-19 they are becoming increasingly popular. Here are some major bonuses to consider!

You can have your wedding sooner… Yep! You read that right. You don’t have to wait until a Saturday date is available at your preferred venue. If you have to reschedule your wedding, or are newly engaged and simply want to get married right away, a weekday wedding could be just the ticket!

Your chances of securing your dream venue are much higher… Many couples book their venue soon after getting engaged. Is your dream venue booked on prime dates in 2021 (and beyond!)? Ask them about their weekday availability.

Get more “bang for your buck”… The popularity of Saturday weddings tends to come with a higher price tag to match. Couples leaning towards a weekday wedding can plan a high-end wedding at a lower cost. Your vendors are more than likely thrilled to accommodate a weekday soiree on a date they normally wouldn’t book.

You can enjoy a more cozy, intimate party… A smaller guest list typically comes with a weekday wedding, which means you can create a more intimate celebration. Worried about guests having to take off extra work time? If they are coming from out of state, chances are they are going to need to travel for more than one day regardless. While some guests may not be able to attend, with ample notice, your VIPs will have plenty of time to make travel plans to join your special day!

Taco Tuesday wedding theme? Or how about Thirsty Thursday? When planning your weekday wedding, you can choose a fun theme or a popular date!… How fun would it be to have your weekday wedding on 2/1/21, 10/20/21, 11/12/21, 2/2/22 or even 2/22/22?! Bonus — 2/22/22 falls on a Tuesday! Hello Taco Tuesday! Complete your wedding day theme with margaritas and tacos!

Looking to schedule your own weekday wedding? We’d love to share our expertise to help you plan the best day ever! Contact us to chat.

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Gayle + Thomas

Gayle and Thomas were married on a gorgeous afternoon in September with amazing natural light pouring in on them from our windows. Everything came together perfectly for their wedding day and we can’t wait to share everything with you!

The Backstory + Proposal

The couple met through mutual friends who encouraged them that they would “be great together.” Almost a year and a half after their initial meeting, Gayle says the sparks really flew at a Christmas party and they went on their first real date. The next weekend the couple went to another Christmas party, and then every weekend there after they traveled to see each other.

The proposal came in late January, after Thomas had asked Gayle’s father’s permission at Christmas. We are told it included “a whole set up with sticky notes and music, and a sparkly ring at the end!”

The Venue + Décor

What drew you to The Colonnade?

“We fell in love with the Colonnade on our first visit! We loved how the venue could be set up in so many different ways and that we had so many options for the ceremony, the reception, cocktail hour, etc. I also really liked how the overall package options were flexible and inclusive, it took some of the sourcing out of the planning and made decisions easier.”

Greensboro Wedding Venue_0624.jpg

It was safe to say that Revolution Mill was a “love at first sight” story with both Gayle and Thomas. We’re so thankful it was! We loved hosting them and their special guests to celebrate their love for each other.

“The beautiful Revolution Mill has inspired our decor definitely! When we visited the venue, I immediately liked it and was excited about the options for having our wedding there. I wasn’t sure about Thomas’ initial reaction because he wasn’t saying much. As we were leaving, he stopped me and told me that this was our venue, that is was the perfect setting and was a representation of who we are as people and a couple; the old cotton mill/wood floors represents where he comes from a rural setting, son of a tobacco farmer in King, and the ironwork and modern details represents more of where I come from in urban settings and it mixes together beautifully. Our decor is a representation of that as well, modern rustic. But what I also love about the venue is that is has so many gorgeous details to be accented, I don’t have to “over” decorate it!”

Food & Drinks

The couple kept all of their guests in mind while creating their menu and added personal meals for the gluten free and vegetarian friends as well. The full menu included a cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres of:

  • Caprese Skewers Skewers of Alternating Grape Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella Balls and fresh basil drizzled with balsamic glaze

  • Mini Sundried Tomato Biscuits with homemade pimento cheese

  • Bacon-Wrapped Sweet Potatoes with a black pepper brown sugar glaze

The dinner buffet included:

  • Mixed Greens Salad Tossed with Balsamic Artichoke Hearts, Smoked Gouda, Tomatoes and Croutons

  • Grilled Chicken Breast Parmesan Cream Sauce

  • Marinated Grilled Flank Steak with Pommery Mustard Sauce

  • Fresh Green Beans with Shoepeg Corn

  • Steamed Lemon Parsley Potatoes

Everyone enjoyed a decadent dessert table filled with cookies made by a family friend and goodies after dinner.

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Rebecca + Michael

Rebecca and Michael met while they were serving in the Peace Corps in Mongolia. It was important to them to have everyone special in their lives together at once on their wedding day. This fun-loving duo was married in November at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill in Greensboro. We enjoyed planning much of the occasion long-distance with lots of Zoom calls and we’re excited to share their amazing day with you!

The Venue

“The venue has SO much character that it doesn't need any extra flare (unless you want that). The natural lighting and variety of scenery the venue has to offer is breathtakingly beautiful.”

Rebecca and her bridesmaids enjoyed a morning of pampering in the Bridal Suite including hair & make-up while relaxing with champagne and gearing up for the walk down the aisle.

The couple did a first look to have a few moments to themselves to connect and unwind before their ceremony, and you can see by Rebecca’s smiling face how much that meant.

“Revolution Mills had everything. Even if it was a recommendation for a vendor in the area, or an extra Zoom call to calm your nerves about the details you are unsure about for your day. I mean Revolution Mills has thought about everything, down to even packing an extra meal for you in your getaway car for when you get back to your hotel!! The support and work of Jaime and her team is absolutely the example of what above and beyond is.”

1G6A2298 (1).jpg

The Ceremony

Rebecca and Michael had a gorgeous Fall day in November for their outdoor ceremony in our Courtyard at The Colonnade. The location comfortably allowed for their wedding party of 17, including the Bride & Groom.

Reception & Décor

The couple chose a simple and elegant décor theme to create a relaxed atmosphere where they and their guests could get cozy and catch up with each other. The colors were deep wine with hints of blush pink, purple and a good dose of greenery.

Rebecca put her own personal stamp on the event with a few DIY projects.

“I made all the acrylic/plexiglass signs for the wedding. I bought plexiglass from Home Depot in various sizes, printed out the imagery I wanted on the sign, placed that imagery behind the plexi glass, traced it with a paint marker, let it dry, and then painted the back of it with the colors of our wedding. They turned out GREAT and I would definitely do it again. I also found it helpful to find downloadable signs on Etsy for all the table signs and had them printed at a shop on thick paper. It ended up being the exact look I wanted for a LOT cheaper than anticipated!”

1G6A4640.jpg

Food & Drinks

The guests enjoyed a cocktail hour in the lower courtyard while the wedding party took photos with their photographer. Rebecca and Michael opted for passed hors d’oeuvres of:

  • Cheddar Biscuits filled with Virginia ham, granny smith apples and honey mustard

  • Caprese Skewers of alternating grape tomatoes, fresh mozzarella balls and fresh basil drizzled with balsamic glaze

  • Marinara Meatball on a Spaghetti Nest garnished with parmesan cheese

Rebecca is dairy free, so the couple wanted to include those options throughout their menu. The dinner buffet included:

  • Apple Harvest Salad with artisan greens, thinly-sliced granny smith apples, dried apricots, pistachio nuts in a roasted cinnamon honey vinaigrette with bleu cheese crumbles on the side

  • Fig-stuffed Statler Chicken Breast finished with a light fig glaze

  • Grilled Salmon topped with lemon caper wine sauce

  • Roasted Root Vegetables including sweet potatoes, beets and parsnips with rosemary

  • Potato Gnocchi served with gorgonzola cream sauce

They also chose to have a fun and different approach to wedding desserts and served a variety of 4” individual pies with to go boxes including:

  • Apple

  • Blackberry

  • Key Lime

  • Pumpkin

Rebecca and Michael made use of the champagne wall display and their guests were provided with champagne upon entering the reception along with a full bar.

The Ceremony

Emily and Lee’s ceremony took place in our courtyard at The Colonnade. It was a crisp Fall day that was just perfect for an outdoor wedding. Fall is Emily’s favorite season, so it only made sense that was the season the couple chose to celebrate their wedding day. The colors, sunshine and temperature all contributed to Emily’s dream wedding. The floral designs from Just Priceless and the incorporation of the white pumpkins were what completed the look.

Food & Drinks

The couple wanted to wow their 150 guests with delicious seasonal southern food and drink. They opted for passed hors d’oeuvres of:

  • Caprese Skewers of grape tomatoes, fresh mozzarella balls and fresh basil drizzled with balsamic glaze

  • Bacon-Wrapped Sweet Potato with a black pepper brown sugar glaze

  • Cheddar Biscuits filled with Virginia ham, granny smith apples and honey mustard

2020 Wedding Trends to Watch

With the New Year fast approaching, we are keeping our eye on the fresh 2020 wedding trends to be incorporated into Greensboro weddings. While this year has been full of jewel tones, minimalist dresses, neon décor details and velvet (just to name a few of our favorite 2019 trends). So far 2020 is previewing bold pops of color, inclusive menus, hair accessories and thoughtful detailed touches making each wedding uniquely your own. We can’t wait to ring in the New Year and begin a brand new decade filled with dazzling 2020 weddings. Here are some of the top trends we see emerging in the New Year.

WEDDING HAIR ACCESSORIES

2019 was filled with textured, relaxed and messy updos accompanied by gorgeous, flowy veils. While veils are never going anywhere, make room for 2020 bringing in fashion-forward hair pieces to accessorize your wedding style with pins, barrettes and brooches. They’re also great for holding back natural waves and curls, as well as creating a more relaxed look for your reception.

ECO-FRIENDLY

Green weddings are gaining popularity and we’re ready for it. To keep your wedding eco-friendly, consider “upcycling” by repurposing ceremony florals, take “something borrowed” and continue the trend by including borrowed items in your decorations, use edible flowers on your cake or find a company who can do recycled paper for your invitations.

SIMPLIFIED BRIDAL MAKEUP

Today’s bride is looking for dewy, fresh makeup that allows their natural beauty to shine through. This trend in makeup compliments the new bridal hair, which is relaxed and also very natural looking.

STATEMENT PIECES

Instead of trying to over-stretch your decor budget across many things, why not aim for the wow-factor? Focus on one or two statement pieces of decor. Hanging florals never fail to impress. Let’s not forget, neon signs aren’t out just yet either and will double as a fun focal point. Having a standout detail is sure to add a unique piece of your own personality and great photo-op to your wedding day.

INCLUSIVE MENUS

Food stations continue to be popular and they are a perfect choice for couples who want to offer customization for their guests. Vegetarian? Not a problem. Gluten free? We have you covered. Rev Mill works exclusively with Pepper Moon Catering to create a unique dining experience for you and your guests. Consider delicious non-alcoholic specialty drinks to offer too.

TRENDING HUES

Our guess is that you probably didn’t begin your wedding planning with a color scheme in mind, right? It often develops as you begin your planning process. As you consider the vast array of colors, find a way to add a fun pop of color to your celebration! Color is one of our favorite upcoming 2020 wedding trends. According to Pantone’s 2020 top wedding color schemes, we’ve heard hints of neo mint, purist blue, chive, cassis (which is a blend of purples and pinks), cantaloupe and mellow yellow.

Pantone-Fashion-Color-Trend-Report-New-York-Spring-Summer-2019-Article.jpg

DO IT YOUR WAY

Whatever the trends, remember this is your special day. Don’t worry about what’s popular and what everyone else is doing. Trends are great for ideas and inspiration, but make sure you create your own special day exactly how you want it.

Revolution Mill Greensboro Reception: Rachel and Kegan

Rachel and Kegan were married on July 20, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC. Their celebration continued with a reception in The Colonnade at Revolution Mill. The couple has been together since middle school (keep an eye out for the photos below of some adorable scrapbook style gifts Rachel has made and gifted Kegan over the years) and are truly an amazing, easy going couple! We’re so thankful they chose our venue to celebrate their love with family and friends.

The Venue

Rachel and Kegan chose a cocktail style reception because their main goal was for their guests to mingle and have lots of fun. They hired an amazing band and handed out festive light up accessories for the dance floor which added to the party vibe. We provided interactive food stations, multiple bars and a late night snack so food and drinks flowed throughout the night.

What drew the couple to the Colonnade?

“The location is wonderful. We just loved the feel of the space with the exposed brick and wood beams. It was also so convenient to have another bar around the corner that us and our guests walked to after the reception was over!”
- Rachel and Kegan, Bride and Groom

The Vendors

“We are both from Greensboro and wanted to have our reception at a place that felt new to us instead of a place where we grew up going to events. Revolution Mill absolutely blew us away. Jaime was so calm throughout the planning process and answered all of our questions and concerns quickly and with ease. The night flowed so well, and she, along with my incredible wedding coordinator Mimi McGinn, made sure everything was thought of.

My husband and I got to eat quietly by ourselves before ever coming out for our first dance. We got to try all of the wonderful food that was being served and then got to mingle with our guests immediately upon the start of the event. This was a bigger gift than I imagined, as I am not sure we would have found the time to eat otherwise. Revolution Mill also kindly packaged up all of the leftover food and sent it back with us which was a wonderful late night treat for our friends.

Our band, Right to Party, was also INCREDIBLE. They played for over 2 and a half hours straight which kept the party going until the very end. They also learned how to play our first dance song which we really appreciated!” - Rachel, Bride

Catering: In-House/Peppermoon Catering

“The level of service was absolutely wonderful. There were multiple bartenders at each bar and no one had to stand around in line to get a drink or to get food. I also never had to think twice about when things would come out, and the timing was always perfect.” - Rachel, Bride

Rachel and Kegan took advantage of two of our campus neighbors and went for drinks afterwards at The Bearded Goat. For our couples who choose to utilize everything our campus has to offer, there are quite a few options to take advantage of, such as having your Rehearsal Dinner at a nearby restaurant such as Kau.

“It was truly the most perfect day. I was not stressed about a single thing, and it was more fun than I could have imagined. Having all your favorite people in one place to celebrate is the most humbling experience and we could not be more grateful. The reception was incredible, from the flow of food, to the service, to the band set up, it all went off without a hitch. We walked away from the weekend saying confidently, we wouldn't have changed a thing.” - Rachel and Kegan, Bride and Groom

We are honored to be a part of Rachel and Kegan’s love story! It was amazing to see their vision turn into reality with the fun filled reception they planned for their friends and family. Catering Ideas To Charm Your Guests

When asking our wedding couples what their top three wedding priorities are, food and drink is almost always near the top of the list. The reception fare is often what guests remember most about the wedding – whether it was tasty, plentiful, served at the right temperature and at the right time. Catering typically accounts for the largest portion of most couples' budgets, so it only makes sense they want to serve something that shines!

Together with Pepper Moon Catering, we’re ready to take on the challenge to impress your guests. Pepper Moon Catering has been offering premier, full service catering for all occasions in Greensboro, NC for over 20 years. They have been providing exclusive catering and management for Revolution Mill Events since 2015.

When planning your reception, you’ll get to work closely with Jaime, our Venue & Catering Manager. She draws upon over 15 years of event experience and has a keen eye for detail, love of logistics and providing personalized customer service. You will enjoy the seamless wedding planning experience that Revolution Mill Events provides!

We love getting to know you, finding out your favorite foods, and working with you to create a custom menu that is charming, memorable, and deliciously satisfying!

Welcome Your Guests with a Cocktail

What better way to say, “Welcome! It’s time to sit back, relax and enjoy your evening!” than to offer a drink as your guests walk in? We are obsessed with this idea recently used by one of our couples at their reception. Guests were wowed with this beautiful (and functional!) welcome display. We worked with the couple to create a signature blueberry, lavender pink lemonade, which was uniquely displayed with their escort cards. This display also makes a stunning champagne wall.

Late Night Snacks

PMC_The Nixons Photography (4).jpg

Grilled Cheese at a wedding? Yes! We love putting a playful twist on southern comfort foods. Imagine ending a night of tearing up the dance floor with a gourmet grilled cheese made with blue cheese and bacon or goat cheese and peppadew peppers. Other ideas to satisfy your guest’s late night munchies: a soft pretzel bar, freshly popped popcorn, mac & cheese bites or burger sliders.

Interactive Food Stations

Provide a memorable opportunity for your guests to interact with their food by building their own plate or watching a Pepper Moon chef create their personal dish.

Hors d’oeuvres are spread out into multiple stations which is ideal for reducing lines and offering variety. Your guests will remember the fun interactive displays (think Mashed Potato Bar, Polenta Bar, Taco Station) and chefs preparing their dishes (think Jar-B-Q, Fired Ahi Tuna, Gyros, Fajitas with fresh Guacamole, Jap Che)!

Interactive food stations allow your guests to customize their meal to fit their preferences, which will have your guests raving about the food at your wedding.

Cocktail Hour Hors D'oeuvres

Cocktail hour is the perfect time to let your personality shine through the food!

Passed hors d'oeuvres — This is an elegant way to provide bite sized hors d'oeuvres to your guests during cocktail hour. Servers will tray pass the goodies as your guests mix and mingle throughout the space. Pepper Moon Catering offers many options including the popular Pumpkin Curry Empanada, Sundried Tomato Biscuits with housemade Pimento Cheese, Caprese Skewers, Marinara Meatball in a Spaghetti Nest and Bacon wrapped Sweet Potato.

Displayed hors d'oeuvres — Wow your guests with displays of mouth watering hors d'oeuvres such as Imported and Domestic Cheeses, a trio of Dips, Fresh Fruit with brandied custard dipping sauce or Grilled Vegetables with sundried tomato vinaigrette. Combine several items for a plentiful grazing table!

Formal Plated Meals

We’re seeing a return to the traditional plated dinner service. This is a great option if you are going for a more formal and elegant guest experience. Typically guests are seated at an assigned table and the meal is served directly to the table by the wait staff. It is often a three course meal that includes a salad, entree, and dessert.

Everyone at the table will get their food at the same time; and you can spread out toasts and/or incorporate dances during the courses to keep your guests engaged while they enjoy their dinner.

Include a Local Favorite

We are lucky to have some amazing food businesses central to North Carolina like Krispy Kreme, Mt Olive Pickles, Cheerwine, Texas Pete, Snyder’s-Lance and Dewey’s Bakery. Try adding a bit of of flair to your day and include something local in your wedding menu. We could incorporate Krispy Kreme donuts as a late night snack or offering them as favors to your guests! We also have a fun Krispy Kreme slider bar where guests can choose their toppings for a decadent dessert.

From the simple to the elaborate, Pepper Moon Catering is one of the Triad’s most trusted catering partners. We can’t wait to get your personalized menu started!

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Alexandra and Jordan

After knowing each other since 5th grade, Alexandra and Jordan were married on a beautiful sunny afternoon on May 18, 2019 in the courtyard at The Colonnade. Because of her past experience working in the event industry, Alex had a clear vision of what was most important for their day.

Things kicked off on Friday with their ceremony rehearsal followed by a rehearsal dinner at Kau (right on the Revolution Mill campus!). Saturday was filled with getting ready, saying “I do” and dancing the night away! We loved getting to know this couple and partnering with them to create many special memories.

Greensboro Wedding Venue, Revolution Mill, Triad Wedding_1144.jpg

“If I could give this venue more than 5 stars I would!! This met and exceeded every single expectation I ever had. There is not a single bad thing I would say. Beautiful, elegant, romantic, and fun. There is something for every bride and every groom. The fact that it has a beautiful outdoor space just as nice as the inside is a true PLUS. Truly the best decision I made! The staff at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill was extremely attentive, loving, and caring. I will be recommending this venue to anyone and everyone.”

- Alex, Bride

The Venue & Décor

When asked what initially drew the couple to The Colonnade, Alex mentioned the fact that we have both indoor and outdoor spaces… and also that the venue practically “decorated itself.”

The couple chose an outdoor ceremony in the courtyard. The decor consisted of dusty rose, lots of greenery and gold accents. Why did Alex and Jordan choose these colors? … they matched the Bridesmaids dresses! While Alex and Jordan were having photos done after the ceremony, the guests made use of our outdoor space during cocktail hour. They were kept entertained with an outdoor bar, passed hors d’oeuvres and patio games.

Greensboro Wedding Venue, Revolution Mill, Triad Wedding_1156.jpg

The Suite

While the guy got ready in The Lounge, Alex chose to take advantage of our newly finished Suite for her finishing touches. We are so happy that we can provide this convenient space on site for getting ready and photos, rather than having to travel over in your dress. Better yet, use of this space is included in your venue rental fee!

Food & Drinks

The couple wanted to wow their 165 guests with seasonal and delicious food and drink! They opted for passed hors d’oeuvres of:

  • Cheddar Biscuits with Ham, Granny Smith Apples and Honey Mustard

  • Bacon-wrapped Sweet Potatoes

  • Caprese Skewers

The dinner buffet included:

  • Spinach Salad with Strawberries, Mandarin Oranges, Goat Cheese, Almonds, and Blood Orange Vinaigrette

  • Bourbon and Pecan Coated Chicken Breast (the couple’s favorite!!)

  • Grilled Flank Steak with Pommery Mustard Sauce

  • Grilled Vegetables

  • Carolina Wild Rice

Everyone enjoyed a decadent dessert table filled with cake and goodies after dinner.

Morgan and Eric were married in the courtyard on a sunny fall day filled with blue skies, on November 3, 2018 at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill in Greensboro. We’re excited to share their story with you!

The Proposal

The couple met in college through a group of friends and became college sweethearts. Of course she said YES! And they still went to watch the Liverpool game afterwards.

The Venue

Eric and Morgan fell in love with Revolution Mill because of the old, historic and industrial feel to it. They loved the original maple floors, exposed brick and high ceilings of The Colonnade most of all.

“The communication was excellent. Nothing went unattended.”

Greensboro Corporate Event, Revolution Mill, Color Works, Corporate Holiday Party_0970.jpg

I know… it’s July, but have you started thinking about your Greensboro corporate holiday party yet? Trust me, the festive season will be here before you know it! Don’t stress, there’s still time to plan a soirée that will keep your employees talking and excited for the next one. Corporate holiday parties can have a reputation for being a bit… dull… but there are so many ways you can get creative and create some real holiday spirit within your co-workers!

A holiday party is an opportunity to get your team together, get to know each other better in a more relaxed environment, and let everyone know how much they are appreciated for their hard work. What exactly makes a party memorable? These ideas and tips can help you create a company holiday party that everyone will enjoy.

DECOR

  • Consider a theme for your event such as Winter Wonderland, Ugly Christmas Sweater, Rustic Woodlands, Christmas Masquerade Ball or Santa’s Workshop. Create an amazing guest experience by tying the theme into all the details.

  • Choose a color scheme. A classic black-and-white color scheme is classy and gives your guests an excuse to get dressed up for a special night out. Red-and-white is also a fun alternative that celebrates the festive season.

  • Lighting can really enhance the look of your event! Ask us about uplighting, edison lights, gobos, string lights and more.

THE FOOD

Food is such an important factor in any type of party or event. Do you want a more formal feel? Then consider a plated dinner with table-side wine service. If you’re looking to get guests to mix and mingle, then plan for a buffet or heavy hors d’oeuvres stations. Add fun accents like a hot chocolate or fresh apple cider bar with seasonal mix ins. Don’t forget dessert with classics such as cheesecake or a variety of holiday themed cookies and pastries. We love partnering with you to create custom menus for all kinds of social occasions!

“We really had a good time at the holiday party. Everything was absolutely perfect. The food was awesome and the employees keep raving about how good it was. We feel like it was probably about the best company party we’ve ever had. You did a fabulous job coordinating the whole thing and it was great working with you. I will be in touch for next year!”
- Carri, Caffey Distributing

"Jaime, I would like to send high compliments to the staff you assembled for that evening. Everyone proclaimed the food selections as delicious! I must add that all the staff, even down to the security person, were on top of their game. If I have the opportunity to host something like this in the future, I will be in touch. Meanwhile, I will spread the word to friends who weren’t able to attend. Revolution Mill Events is a beautiful venue and maintains a high standard for any type of event, and a high quality of food from Pepper Moon Catering. Bravo to all." - Joy, Livingbrush Body Painting

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Lilly and Austin

Lilly and Austin are middle school sweethearts who married in the Courtyard at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill in Greensboro on October 21, 2018. Their wedding was filled with personal touches, Bohemian chic designs and lots of dreamy greenery. We are so excited to share their wedding ceremony and reception with you!

The Proposal

“We were driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway and decided to go walk around at Chetola Resort (they have a lake/walking trail). We went out onto the gazebo and it was all lit up with string lights so we stopped to take a picture. I was facing one way because Austin wanted to make sure the camera would get us in the shot and when I turned around he was on one knee! It was intimate and romantic and everything I could have wanted in a proposal.” - Lilly, Bride

Revolution Mill Events, Greensboro Wedding Venue, Triad Weddings_0940.jpg

Decor and Vendors

There was lots of lush greenery to compliment the neutral colors and autumn-toned bouquets to create a natural boho feel. Lilly designed the table numbers, centerpieces, and assembled all the decor for their wedding day.

“A personal favorite was the arbor we had at the altar that was covered in beautiful fall flowers and greenery thanks to The Green Bee Floral Designs and The Prettiest Pieces. We also had mismatched rugs lining the aisle and it was seriously dreamy.” - Lilly, Bride

The Venue

What drew the couple to The Colonnade? They loved the exposed brick and large windows and may have been known to say they are “what dreams are made of” … Love it!

“Initially, we were drawn to the historical and industrial vibe it had. Once we visited, we both fell in love with the architecture and the set up The Colonnade offered. Tried and True Wedding Advice from Newlyweds

Let’s be honest, planning a wedding can feel pretty overwhelming. Let us guess, you’ve been studying Pinterest at all hours of the day and night, and researching wedding planning blogs like crazy? Sound about right? However, you can never fully anticipate what your wedding day will be like until it’s actually here. It’s okay. Take a deep breath. We are here to make planning a wedding feel like a breeze. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of top tips from past couples and newlyweds. They’ve walked down the aisle, said their “I Do’s” and have fully enjoyed their receptions. And now they’re ready to pass on their knowledge to you.

PLAN AHEAD & CHOOSE YOUR VENDORS CAREFULLY

  • “Start early! (or as early as you can) - It really helps to have plenty of time, especially if you're getting married at a popular time of year. Things book up fast!” - Hillary

  • “Make sure you pick a great venue, caterer, and photographer. Those are so important! Also make sure to take time to actually enjoy the planning process. Remember it doesn't all have to be done at once!” - Leah

VISUALIZE YOUR PERFECT WEDDING DAY

  • “Start with trying to form your own vision. Pinterest/Etsy are great but can overwhelm you!” - Sequoia

  • “Your wedding is about you and your significant other, no one else. It’s hard to remember that sometimes when trying to accommodate everyone’s needs. Even if things don’t go as planned on the big day, in the end you are married and that’s is all that matters! Enjoy every minute of it, it goes by quick!” Allyssa, Bride

  • “Don’t worry about the guests, it’s YOUR wedding, just the two of you. If they love you enough they will make it to your wedding. Don’t plan stuff around them.” - Missy

ALLOW TIME FOR YOU & DELEGATE

  • “One piece of advice I would give to couples planning their wedding is to allow enough time off work before the day of the wedding to make sure everything is together and all the boxes are checked off. I work night shift as a nurse and I worked up until the Thursday night before my Sunday wedding and I felt so out of the loop on my vendors and all our decorations and I felt rushed to get everything together and make sure I had everything I needed.” - Paige

  • “Delegate and take it a little at a time. Planning can be very overwhelming, but if you have reliable vendors and help from family/friends-it will go smoothly!” - Claire

consider your guests

  • “Think about your guests! A lot of the decisions we made had to do with the flow and timing of the event. I pulled on prior experiences of weddings I was a guest at and thought about what choices were made in consideration of the guests and what weren't. Everyone will tell you that your day is all about you, and to a degree it is. But you wouldn't be where you are without the love and support of every person that will be at your wedding. They have given their time and resources to support you! So think of them when you are planning your event.” - Elizabeth

ENJOY IT

  • “Just know something isn't going to go as planned. Be ready to roll with it once the big day gets here, and don't sweat the small stuff.” - Matt

  • “Just enjoy every part! As much as I felt like a crazy woman running around getting everything done, it truly was such a fun time in our lives and I would do it all over again tomorrow! At the end of the day, forget about small details most people will overlook and just take in the fact you get to marry your best friend!” - Lilly

  • “Everything will work out in the end. I spent a lot of time stressing out over the smallest things, and in reality.. on wedding day it is all going to work out- your friends and family are all going to pull together that day to make sure your dream wedding happens. Nothing will ever go just perfectly, so don't be super disappointed if something goes off the track! Keep a good attitude about it and ENJOY YOUR day. People will always have their own opinion, but it is your day and between the two of you. As long as you and your SO are happy and having a blast, I promise everyone else will be too. The stress is silly so don't worry too much. Also, take time to enjoy every single moment and soak it in!” - Courtney

Revolution Mill Greensboro Wedding: Hillary and Adam

We loved being a part of Hillary and Adam’s fall wedding weekend! They kicked it off with a rehearsal dinner in Color Works Meeting Space. Then they shared their unique ceremony and reception with us at The Colonnade on November 10, 2018.

The Backstory

“We met on tinder (LOL) and after texting for about a week, we went on our first date. The rest is history! … We both swiped right, so I’d say it was literally love at first sight ;)” - Hillary, Bride

The Proposal

“We were in Iceland and he proposed on my birthday! He carried the ring around in his pocket all day waiting for the ideal moment. He thought it was the perfect time when we went to see the Northern Lights and just when he wanted to ask, a tour bus full of very excited (ahem, loud) people showed up and, knowing that I wouldn’t want an audience, he waited until we got back to the hotel room. It ended up being super private and special!” - Hillary, Bride

The Venue & Catering

The couple loved the character of Revolution Mill including the exposed brick, tall windows and high ceilings; but what truly drew them in was the custom wrought iron railings.

Hillary and Adam said their vows, surrounded by family and friends in the lower level with our amazing brick and arched window backdrop. While they took some fun pictures around Revolution Mill (check out Hillary’s lush fur stole and rad leather jacket!), guests enjoyed cocktail hour with an open bar along with passed mini sundried tomato biscuits with homemade pimento cheese; bruschetta; and barbecued shrimp on polenta cakes. A dinner buffet followed with tossed salad; Parmesan cream chicken; pepper pork loin with stone fruit and bacon glaze; smashed potatoes; green beans and a special entree for several vegan guests.

The Planning Process and Vendors

The couple chose a moody, romantic theme for their wedding and the burgundy, dark greens and blush pink colors paired perfectly to help set the mood of the day. The furniture rented from Eventful NC helped to add the perfect element of vintage charm for family seating during the indoor ceremony. Then it was re positioned to create a fun photo op and lounge area for guests during the reception!

“All of our vendors were so great! Events by Summer Joy took the pressure off day-of coordination. Andraya with Flora gave me the flowers of my dreams. Samantha Floyd Photography did such an amazing job capturing our day/personalities. Megan Perry with The Hair Refinery did my hair and makeup exactly the way I wanted. B*Dazzled Productions was so fantastic as DJ - it was the best party ever!

The communication with Revolution Mill Events was wonderful. I never felt out of the loop or like Jaime didn't have a full grasp of what I was looking for. This gave me great peace of mind.”

It was an honor to be a part of Hillary and Adam’s love story! It was awesome to see their personality shine through many of the details. We can't wait to show you how The Colonnade in Greensboro can be customized for your wedding day! Contact us to chat about it today.
